The North East Regional Command, in its quest to intensify its educational drive, held a drug sensitisation programme for students of the Blessed Child Preparatory School in Nalerigu.
The outreach, held on Thursday, 24 September 2026, had presentations focused on abuse of substances and misuse, reducing stigma, and strengthening prevention and early intervention.
The platform also delved into the health and safety of the teenagers since this stage requires critical attention due to the youth mostly being attracted to experimentation/formation of habits before hardening into addictions.
The engagement further explored how our brain reward system is hijacked because of indulging in narcotics and debunking misconceptions associated with it.
The students were taken through a demonstration of real-world scenarios about persuasive influences/pressures stemming from this menace by close friends, and how to make a deliberate stance of saying no erupted in rousing applause resonating deeply with them.
On their part, management of Blessed Child Preparatory School reiterated that “Secrets protect addiction, truth destroys it.
They expressed strong optimism to ensure that students with knowledge about the growing menace of substance abuse would be informed about making choices that do not alter the trajectory of their lives.
The team from the Regional Command reiterated their firm commitment to facilitate and supervise the formation of drama clubs in schools within the region with support from the District and Municipal Chief Executives.
The initiative, when activated, will also be supported by heads of educational institutions, practitioners (counsellors), Parent Teacher Associations (PTAs) and other relevant key stakeholders.
