The Executive Secretary of the Lands Commission of Ghana, Prof Anthony Owusu-Ansah, has reiterated the Commission’s support towards the fight against proceeds from organised crime, especially drug trafficking.
According to him, the Commission is happy to partner with relevant key state investigative agencies to investigate landed properties that are observed to have been acquired from the proceeds of drug trafficking.
Prof Owusu-Ansah gave these assurances when the Director-General Brig Gen Maxwell Obuba Mantey, together with his Deputy Director-Generals, Mr Alexander Twum-Barimah, in charge of Enforcement, Control and Elimination and Mr Stephen Yeboah, in charge of General Services as well as some Directors of the Commission paid a courtesy visit to the Management of the Lands Commission on Wednesday 19 November, 2025 in Accra.
He added that the Commission is committed to cooperating with investigative bodies to win out the landed properties which are suspected to be acquired from organised crime to enable confiscation by the state.
“The Commission has, over the years, collaborated with some investigative agencies like the EOCO and others to authenticate the ownership of suspects under their detention, and we will not hesitate to assign officers who will be mandated to assist NACOC in handling its cases”. Prof Owusu-Ansah stressed.
On his part, Brig Gen Maxwell Obuba Mantey commended the Management of the Lands Commission for the acceptance to support NACOC in carrying out its investigations on persons under detention and suspected of having acquired their properties through illicit drug trade.
He added that the collaboration will help expedite the process of pushing the asset declaration by suspects under investigation by the Commission, as well as persons who stand as sureties in facilitating bail for suspects.
“Management of NACOC is grateful to the Management of the Lands Commission for granting us the audience to pave a conducive avenue for easy verification of the landed properties of suspects, and assure that the opportunity will not be abused”, Brig Gen Mantey observed.
Brig Gen Mantey expressed concern regarding the drug abuse and trafficking situation among the youth of the country and appealed to key stakeholders in the society to support NACOC to control and curb the menace.
Mr Alexander Twum-Barimah, the Deputy Director-General in charge of Enforcement, Control, and Elimination, lauded the collaboration as very favourable, as it will go a long way in facilitating and promoting the unearthing of properties acquired by persons suspected of being involved in organised crime.
