The Director-General of the Narcotics Control Commission, Brig Gen Maxwell Obuba Mantey has stated that timely intelligence sharing among sister agencies across border and leveraging on technological tools as well as adequate funding is the way forward in going ahead of the drug trafficking networks.

The Director-General in a meeting with experts in Intelligence management acknowledges the vital role of collaboration in fighting drug trafficking networks and the need to partner with sister agencies particularly in the maritime sector to stay ahead of the criminal networks who operate within that sector to traffic drugs and arms among others to fuel terrorism.

He also said the land border remains a key traffic zone for narcotic drugs, stressing the need to leverage technology to enhance land border security investigations.

The Director-General said synthetic drugs continue to dominate the West Africa sub-region. Thus, the Commission is strengthening officers’ capabilities in cybercrime, where most of these substances are trafficked.

The Deputy Director-General in-charge of Enforcement, Control and Elimination, lawyer Alexander Twum-Barimah on his part said, “our officers are ready to fight” and that the Commission will continue to support more capacity building of officers in the fight against drugs.

The experts on their part pledge to support the Commission with funding, logistics, and training in intelligence.
