Swissport Ghana Limited has assured the management of the Narcotics Control Commission of its maximum support and cooperation in curbing the illicit drug trafficking at the Kotoka International Airport Cargo Terminal

The collaboration, according to Maarten Klijnstra, Managing Director of Swissport Ghana, will go a long way in augmenting and tightening security measures, making it less advantageous for people to smuggle their drug consignments to their preferred destinations.

The Managing Director of Swissport Ghana Ltd gave this assurance when the Deputy Director-General of NACOC in charge of Enforcement, Control and Elimination, Mr Alexander Twum-Barimah, on Friday, 7 November 2025 paid them a working visit at their operational terminal at the Kotoka International Airport Cargo Village.

“Swissport Ghana appreciates NACOC’s collaboration and support throughout the years, mainly to combat the illicit drug trafficking menace, and we are happy to associate with this agenda of making Ghana a drug–free nation”, Mr Klijnstra added.

He commended Ghana for the bold step taken against the illicit drug trafficking and abuse menace and urged NACOC to continue with its mandate, as Swissport Ghana is committed to providing all the necessary support, be it logistics, training, sharing of ideas and intelligence to achieve a common objective for the interest of the nation.

“We avail ourselves of all needed cooperation, mainly to support the Commission in performing its mandate at our terminal without any interference by the management of Swissport Ghana, as it values the nature of work done”

On his part, the Deputy Director-General of NACOC in charge of Enforcement, Control and Elimination, Mr Alexander Twum-Barimah, lauded Swissport Ghana’s initiative of supporting the country to combat all manner of organised crime that is perpetrated by individuals and their associates, mainly at the airport.
He implored on management of Swissport Ghana to put in place measures that would enable officers of the Commission to swiftly detect and act on cargoes that are suspected to be carrying contraband goods.

“NACOC is poised to engage all stakeholders in the performance of its mandate, targeted at achieving its singular purpose of making the country an unattractive point for drug trafficking, for we don’t care who you know when you are found culpable of issues relating to illicit drugs, you will still be in our custody”. Mr Twum-Barimah reaffirmed.

Mr Twum-Barimah cautioned that the Commission will not spare any persons and their associates found to be engaging in acts that contravene the regulations of the Commission and urged persons found to be in the act of smuggling illicit drugs through the Swissport and other cargo terminals to desist from carrying out their activities, since the Commission will not hesitate to arrest and prosecute those who will unluckily find themselves against the law.
