The West African Director responsible for the Illicit Economics Observatory, Madam Lucia Bird, on Tuesday, 25 November 2025, paid a courtesy call on the Director-General of the Narcotics Control Commission, Brig Gen Maxwell Obuba Mantey and some members of his management team at the Commission’s Headquarters in Accra.

The purpose of the call was with regard to the upcoming two-day High-Level Dialogue on the Cocaine Market in West Africa Conference to be held in Accra from Thursday, 27 November to Friday, 28 November 2025.

Madam Bird also added that NACOC’s engagement in the conference is key due to its mandate and oversight responsibility of controlling all issues relating to narcotics in Ghana, hence the Commission’s involvement is very key.

She stressed that NACOC’s impact in the sub-region relating to the fight against illicit drug trafficking is very worth encouraging, hence the need, as part of the organisers of the conference, to collaborate to discuss and proffer strategic solutions in curbing the menace.
On his part, the Director-General of the Narcotics Control Commission, Brig Gen Maxwell Obuba Mantey, commended the organisers for considering Ghana as the next destination to engage stakeholders to deliberate on issues affecting the security and lives of citizens across the board.

He assured NACOC’s maximum participation and collaboration before, during and after the conference.
“NACOC is committed to partnering with all key relevant stakeholders to discuss issues of national concern and will not take the opportunity lightly”, Brig Gen Mantey asserted.

Mr Alexander Twum-Berimah, the Deputy Director-General in charge of Enforcement, Control and Elimination, lauded the organisers for choosing Ghana for this year’s edition.
He expressed the optimism that management will continue to put in place strategies that would curtail the nefarious acts of traffickers to enable their prosecution under the laws of Ghana.
