The President of Leaders Digest, a platform for developing leaders, Prof. Spencer Duncan, has encouraged the staff of the Narcotics Control Commission to endeavour to explore avenues that enhance their self-esteem and confidence in the execution of their daily tasks.

This, he maintained, will enable them become resilient, confident, and open-minded, which will help boost their way of life, mostly in the performance of their official assignments and responsibilities.
Prof Duncan made these assertions during a workshop organised for heads of departments and units at the headquarters on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, on the topic Emotional Intelligence for Leadership of NACOC.

He indicated the challenges faced by subordinates under leaders who never appreciate and value their worth.
He added that leaders must always endeavour to adapt to the concerns and actions of their team members, as well as show empathy to both their colleagues and subordinates in all aspects.
“As leaders, we must always ensure to adopt the emotional barometer, which will enable our subordinates and colleagues to check and measure the way we react to issues brought to our attention”. Prof Duncan stressed.

The Director-General of NACOC, Brig Gen Maxwell Obuba Mantey, on behalf of management and participants, thanked Prof Duncan and his team for their insightful presentation, mainly to expose and equip staff on the importance of managing their emotional intelligence.

He expressed optimism that the training will go a long way to enhance the capabilities of heads of units and departments in dealing with issues relating to anger and conflict management in the performance of their duties.
“As leaders, it is incumbent on us to accept, respect, adapt, and show empathy as well as compassion to our subordinates in all spheres”, Brig Gen Mantey observed.

He admonished all staff to refrain from all forms of acts that would impede the smooth running of the Commission, but must ensure to channel their grievances and misgivings to the appropriate channel for the necessary redress.
“My doors are open for your concerns and challenges with respect to our work activities, as management is committed towards ensuring a peaceful working environment devoid of hostilities”.
