The Director-General of the Narcotics Control Commission Brig Gen Maxwell Obuba Mantey, together with his Deputy Director-General in charge of Enforcement, Control and Elimination, Lawyer Alexander Twum-Barimah on Tuesday 23 September, 2025 paid a courtesy visit to the Canadian High Commissioner to Ghana, H.E Myriam Montrat at her office in Accra.
The call was to establish some network and explore possibilities relating to the cannabis regulations, which Ghana is yet to implement.
Ghana is expected through the Minister of the Interior grant respective licences to prospective applicants who intend to engage in cannabis related endeavours for both medicinal and industrial purposes with a 0.03% of THC content.
The networking, according to Brig Gen Maxwell Obuba Mantey, the Director-General of NACOC is important due to Canada’s longstanding positive credentials relating to the cannabis regulations.
He commended the High Commissioner, Mrs Myriam Montrat, for her collaborative efforts in Ghana and called on her to initiate measures to enable NACOC to network with stakeholders in Canada to tap into their expertise on the cannabis regulations.
He assured that NACOC will avail its doors for future engagements that would enable both countries to understudy each other with regard to the cannabis regulations.
On her part, H. E Myriam Montrat commended NACOC for its good work and assured of Canada’s corporation and support for its activities.
