The Chairman of the Select Committee on Defence and Interior of Parliament, Hon James Agalga, has lauded the achievements of the management of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) in their 90 days of assuming office.
According to the Chairman, the professionalism and dedication in the management of affairs of the Commission are remarkable, worth commending and encouraging.
He eulogised Brig Gen Maxwell Obuba Mantey-led team for their excellent performance within the past 90 days, which has led to the seizure and destruction of over 17 tons of various narcotics, mainly to ensure the safety and lives of the citizenry.
Hon Agalga, who is also the Member of Parliament for Builsa North Constituency in the Upper East Region, made these remarks when, together with his committee members, paid a courtesy visit to the management of the Commission at its headquarters.
He urged management not to relent on their efforts but to strive to do more to save lives and control the influx and smuggling of narcotics.
The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), under the leadership of Brig Gen Mantey and his able deputies, namely Lawyer Alexander Twum-Barimah, in charge of Enforcement, Control and Elimination and Stephen Yeboah in charge of General Services have chalked some remarkable successes such as the acquisition of nine brand new pick-ups for operations, renovation of both the Board room and the reception of the Commission.
Brig Gen Maxwell Obuba Mantey in his remarks noted that together with his team have supervised the successful coordination of operations, which have led to the seizure and subsequent destruction of 17 tons of various narcotic drugs as well as the activation of about twenty district and municipal offices, mostly in the Central, Ashanti, Eastern and Greater Accra regions mainly to boost the operations of the Commission.
Touching on staff welfare, Brig Gen Mantey revealed that plans have been initiated to improve and strengthen issues relating to the wellbeing of staff, such as health, bereavement and other humanly centered activities that would directly benefit all.
He added that management recently sponsored a delegation to Malawi to study the cannabis implementation and modalities to enable NACOC to activate and implement a robust system when Parliament subsequently approve and passes the fees relating to the cannabis license.
