In a vibrant display of unity and determination, the Narcotics Commission (Ghana) orchestrated a health walk to commemorate World Drug Day 2025. The event, held on a sunny morning, brought together hundreds of youths aged 18-40, all clad in specially designed t-shirts emblazoned with the powerful message “Say No to Drugs.”

As the crowd gathered in front of the Ayi Mensah Police Station, the air was electric with anticipation. The participants, fueled by a shared passion for creating a drug-free society, formed three columns and set off on their journey. The rhythmic beats of the accompanying band added to the infectious energy, drawing in onlookers and passersby.

The procession wound its way through the streets, with the sea of colorful t-shirts making a striking sight. Although the walk caused brief traffic delays at various stops, the enthusiasm and conviction of the participants made the wait worthwhile. As one observer noted, “The passion and energy of these young people are a testament to the power of collective action against drug abuse.”

As the group ascended the hills towards Peduase Lodge, the scenic views and the band’s lively rhythms propelled them forward. Many participants, having previously engaged with the NACOC’s initiatives or newly joined the cause, were driven by a shared vision of drug-free communities. Their determination was palpable, and their message was clear: it’s time to take a stand against drug abuse.

This event was part of a broader celebration, following a thought-provoking debate held at the Centre for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) on June 20, 2025. The debate, featuring PRESEC and St. Thomas Aquinas schools, centered on the motion “Decriminalization of drugs for industrial and medicinal use is a worthwhile feat to be encouraged.” The participants’ poise, energy, and thorough understanding of the issue demonstrated their commitment to fighting drug abuse.

The final leg of the World Drug Day celebrations is scheduled for Thursday, June 26, 2025, at the AICC. As the program unfolds, it’s clear that the NACOC’s message has resonated with the youth, empowering them to join the fight against drug use and abuse.
