The Registrar of the Pharmacy Council of Ghana, Pharm. Michael Kudebong, Esq., and his management paid a courtesy call on the management of the NACOC on Wednesday, June 11, 2025.

The purpose of the visit was to become acquainted with NACOC management and to open the door to potential discussions that would deepen and improve the working relationship between the two institutions, whose operations combine to ensure public safety.

Speaking during the meeting, NACOC’s Director-General, Brigadier General Maxwell Obuba Mantey, praised the Council for its long-standing collaboration to improve public safety.

He raised concerns about some pharmaceutical company’s involvement in the distribution of illegal drugs, stating that such actions are unjustified and unacceptable. He went on to say that the Commission is prepared to act against any individual or company proven guilty of selling illegal narcotics to the general population.

Regarding the collaborative effort to deepen result-oriented activities between the two institutions, Brigadier General Mantey assured Council management of his continued support in dealing with all recalcitrant pharmacy companies that violate the regulations governing public safety adherence.

Pharm Michael Kudebong, Esq., Registrar of the Pharmacy Council of Ghana, in his remarks, commended NACOC’s operating standards in dealing with the country’s illicit drug problem.

He emphasised that the Council will not protect any individual or company that flouts the regulations and secretly engaging in conduct that violates the legislation prohibiting the sale of certain commonly used narcotic medications to consumers.

Mr Kudebong reiterated that the Council will not back down from removing the licenses of those accused of illegally supplying such addictive medications to citizens.

He stated that the Council will continue to work with NACOC to carry out their officially mandated responsibilities, such as improving public awareness programs and sharing data and information to keep the country’s illicit drug use situation under control.

Mr. Alexander Twum-Barimah, Esq., Deputy Director-General in Charge of Enforcement, Control and Elimination at NACOC, praised the Pharmacy Council’s management for their years of partnership in ensuring public safety in the country.
