The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), in a joint exercise with the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), has destroyed varieties of narcotic drugs at the Bundase Military Camp in the Greater Accra Region.
The exercise witnessed the burning of 3,313kg of cocaine, which was seized by the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) on the Cape Coast -Takoradi highway in the first quarter of this year and 13,513.91kg of assorted narcotic drugs seized by NACOC.
Speaking to the press, the Director-General of NACOC Brig Gen Maxwell Obuba Mantey lauded the joint exercise between NACOC and NIB in ensuring that the seized consignment were successfully destroyed.
He added that the exercise forms part of the planned programme of activities to commemorate the 2025 International Day Against Drug trafficking and abuse, also known as World Drug Day Celebration to be climaxed on Thursday 26, June, 2025 with the Vice President honouring the occasion.
Brig Gen Mantey used the platform to caution persons who are found to be in the act of peddling illicit drugs to desist from their act as the Commission will not relent on clamping down on them soon.
On his part, Alexander Twum-Barimah, Deputy Director-General of NACOC in charge of Enforcement, Control and Elimination added that the Commission will continue to partner with sister security agencies to ensure that menace of drug trafficking is controlled.
He stressed that NACOC will continue to operate on its mandate to ensure Ghana becomes a drug free nation
The breakdown of the seized narcotic drugs, which were destroyed by NACOC and the NIB, includes
Cocaine – 113.348kg
Heroin – 10.45kg
Cannabis- 1934.273kg
Methamphetamine- 2.00kg
MDMA (ecstasy) – 0.644kg
Ketamine- 1.099kg
Cathinone- 15.1kg
Codeine, Diclofenac and Hyergra all rounded up to 11,500kg.
In all, NACOC destroyed 13,513.91kg worth of the above-mentioned assorted drugs, while the NIB destroyed 3,313kg totaling 16,826.91kg.
