The Director-General of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), Brigadier General Maxwell Obuba Mantey on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, paid a courtesy call on the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), COP Christian Tetteh Yehonu, at the Police Headquarters.
The visit was mainly to formally establish direct contact with the IGP and his management team over the illegal drug use and trafficking problem.
According to him, the rise of illicit drug consumption and trafficking poses a significant threat to citizens’ lives and safety, particularly among young people who are vulnerable to the menace.
Brigadier General Mantey took the opportunity to congratulate the IGP and the whole Police Service for their cooperation in combating the illicit drug trade throughout the years.
He consequently urged for continuing support through intelligence sharing and exchange training initiatives to develop and build the capacity of the Commission’s staff.
On his part, COP Mr Christian Tetteh Yehonu welcomed the NACOC delegation led by the Director-General for their visit and assured them of the Police Service’s cooperation in combating the country’s illicit drug trafficking problem.
He intimated that, emphasis will be focused on regions that have been identified as landing grounds for narcotics importation into the country, particularly Kpone, the Ada estuary and Prampram, all of which are located in Greater Accra’s coastal zone.
COP Tetteh Yehonu assured the Director-General of NACOC that the police service will work closely with NACOC to combat illicit drug trafficking and usage.
The NACOC delegation included the Deputy Director-General in charge of General Services, Stephen Yeboah, CNCO Stanley Solomon Eyo, Director of Enforcement, CNCO Hazel J. Mensah, Director of Human Resource and Administration, and Human Resource and PNCO Francis Opoku Amoah, Acting Director of Public Affairs and International Relations.
